A DAY AT THE RACES

Greetings Fashionistas!

The other day was the Kentucky Derby, a grand affair full of tradition and excitement. The ladies dress up and wear grand hats. The idea is the fancier the hat the more luck you bring to your horse. Proud owners make their way to their boxes while thrilled spectators find their seats among everyone else. Everyone sips mint juleps of course, it's the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. I decided to do a post dressing up for the Derby using items from Marketplace only, so here we are! I chose a lovely, sleeveless dress called, "Marilyn" by Pacifica Fashions. It comes in a variety of prints and colors and is available in versions for the most popular mesh bodies. I purchased the fatpack on Marketplace, which offers a HUD for several color and print changes on the main part of the dress and one that offers changes of color on the bodice cups. The sweetheart neckline is complemented by the rolled trim that outlines the cup area. The skirt flares slightly at the waist and ends several inches above the knee. I loved this choice of color as the pink is so feminine and pretty. It evokes images of past Kentucky Derbies and all the pomp and circumstance that went with it.

Of course when I arrive at the Derby I will want to pose for pictures with my horse. In this case it's a Black Arabian from AKK, available on Marketplace. His registered name is "An Affair to Remember" after the well known old movie with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr. He is looking in good form and ready to run, so after a few photo opportunities including several pics taken at the Brandywine River Mall and Stables before we came to Churchill Downs, I head to my box to await the race.  You can see the lovely garden area of the Brandywine River Mall and Stables in the background below.

Now although the dress is very important the hat is even more important and so it was with great care I chose the "Ascot Pamela Hat with Scarf" by ArisAris. This wide brim hat delicately embossed with daisy like flowers features a band at the crown and a scarf beneath that ties into a delicate bow over the ear. It comes with a HUD that allows you to choose different colors and prints for all parts. It's available now on Marketplace as is the short wispy bangs showing beneath the hat called, "Courtney Bangs" by A&A.

I was thrilled to be able to enhance my look with jewelry that I'd like to say had been in my family for years but it simply isn't true. The jewelry is found on Marketplace and is an amazing set called, "Equestrian Cameo Pearls" by Zuri Jewelry. The pieces include a triple strand necklace, brooch, earrings and bracelet. They feature an equestrian silhouette cameo surrounded by varying gold spikes each topped with a pearl. Jewelry that oozes old world charm and sophistication.

I decided since a more formal look was in order, "Short White Lace Gloves" by AviCandy were just the thing. They are available in versions for all the popular mesh bodies and hands and can be found on Marketplace. My clutch for lipstick, mirror and money for betting fits neatly in my hand. It's called, "Monroe" by RealEvil Industries. It comes with a HUD that allows you to be able to change the leather, metal and pearl textures. You can pick it up on Marketplace.

My shoes are high, strappy heels called, "Platonica" by Breathe, available on Marketplace.  Stylish and comfortable they come with a HUD that offers several color choices for optimum versatility. I'm all set to sip my mint julep and cheer on my horse! See you all there at the next Kentucky Derby!
